This stock photo shows a native art mask featuring the Wildman (Bakwis), by Beau Dick, Kwakwaka'wakw First Nations Artist, original West Coast native art, Just Art Gallery, Port McNeill, Northern Vancouver Island, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. Beau Dick is one of the Northwest Coast's most versatile and talented carvers. He is widely acclaimed for his strong carving abilities and for the powerful quality of his masks. Reaching out beyond the confines of his own Kwakwaka'wakw culture, Beau Dick has mastered the styles of other tribal traditions. He has also stepped into the realm of contemporary art in paintings which draw on European influence, but express the powerful mythology of his own culture. Dick has exhibited in countless group exhibitions and has been the subject of solo exhibitions. His work can be found in not only private collections but museums as well. He created a transformation mask for Expo '86 which now hangs in the Canadian Museum of Civilization, in Hull, Quebec. Locally, Dick has many pieces on display in the Museum of Anthropology at the University of British Columbia. Beau Dick apprentices many of the young carvers, thus passing on the skills and knowledge he inherited from his father, Francis Dick.
