This stock photo includes a bright orange Ochre Sea Star, Pisaster ochraceus, a large starfish, on a rocky outcrop with a woman looking for sea life in the rocks in the background, South Beach, Pacific Rim National Park, Long Beach Unit, Clayoquot Sound UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, West Coast, Pacific Ocean, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. The sky above is bright blue with stripes of white clouds running toward the horizon. Surrounding the sea star you can see a close up view of barnacles and other small marine animals clinging all over the rocks. The clear blue water is still and you can almost see into it. South Beach can be accessed by either a short walking trail or a longer rainforest boardwalk hike over some headlands. Though a rocky outcrop is seen here, South Beach is sandy, especially at low tide in the peak seasons. At high tide, especially in storm watching season, the ocean waves erupt and transform into crashing forces of nature, sometimes throwing logs and developing into crazy tidal currents. When conditions are right, the repetitive waves also play by rolling rocks up and down creating music.
