Banff National Park forms part of the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks UNESCO World Heritage Site. Dolomite Peak is located in Banff National Park at the northern end of the Bow River Valley. It is situated east of Bow Lake and Crowfoot Mountain, and southeast of the Cirque Peak. The scenic Icefields Parkway passes below the west footing of Dolomite Peak, and its many towers of the summit ridge can be seen from several vantage points along the highway. These colorful jagged rock towers have a likeness to the Dolomite Range in the Alps of Italy which is how the mountain received it appropriate characteristic name. A small glacier resides on the north aspect of the mountain. Dolomite is a compact limestone which provides solid rock appreciated by rock climbers.
